LEED and the National Green Building Code should
include the following:
- Fireplace to meet national efficiency and emissions
standards - mandatory
- Air loss through fireplace and chimney system
part of whole house ventilation system calculations
- mandatory
- Chimney taller than house - 1 point
- Masonry chimney inside exterior walls of the
house with top damper - 2 points
- Fireplaces and chimneys designed to last 50
years or longer - 2 points
- Wood-burning fireplaces (renewable fuel) - 1
point
